Understanding electricity costs
Depending on where you live, you are either a customer of Northland Utilities Yellowknife or Northland Utilities NWT, both of which are separate companies with separate regulations.
Both companies are regulated by the Northwest Territories Public Utilities Board, in accordance with the Public Utilities Act. The NWT Public Utilities Board (PUB) is an independent, quasi-judicial agency of the Government of the Northwest Territories.

We conduct our business in compliance with the following Terms and Conditions. The Terms and Conditions of Service and any subsequent amendments come into force on the date approved by the Board and supersede any previous Terms and Conditions of the Company.

Rates
Power rates in Yellowknife are outlined in the following Rate Schedule and organized by customer type.
Northland (Yellowknife) has implemented the following change effective June 1, 2023:
- Rider F has changed from $0.0779/kWh to $0.0893/kWh as approved in Board Decision 10-2023. This increase is a flow through of NTPC’s Snare wholesale rate increase which was approved in Board Decision 6-2023.

We serve customers who have homes or businesses in Hay River, Sambaa K’e, Kakisa, Dory Point, Fort Providence, Wekweeti, Enterprise and Katl'odeeche First Nation.

Northland (NWT) has implemented the following changes effective June 1, 2023:
- Rider A has changed from $0.0366/kWh to $0.0351 as approved in PUB decision 8-2023
- Rider R has changed from -0.52% to Hydro: 3.0% and Thermal: 5.8% as approved in PUB decision 8-2023
- Rider F has changed from $0.0244 to $0.0130 as approved in PUB decision 9-2023
- Rider H has changed from -4.58% to 0% as approved in PUB decision 6-2022
- TPSP Reference Rate has changed from $0.3108/kWh to $0.3222/kWh
Northland (NWT) implemented the following change effective May 1, 2023:
- GNWT Rate Equalization Program (GREP) reference rate has increased due to NTPC’s rate increase as approved in PUB Decision 6-2023
