Northland Utilities promotes safety in both the workplace as well as the community we live and work in. We are happy to report that we have not had a lost time incident in the workplace in over 6 years. As a matter of fact, the last lost time incident occurred in 2002.
Each year, to help create an awareness within the community, Electrical Safety Presentations are held at our office as well as in grade 4 and 5 classrooms. This September, we will once again be holding presentations at various grade 4 and 5 classrooms throughout Yellowknife. In addition, an education package on our web site is designed for students in grades four to six. The package includes units on electricity generation, electrical safety and energy conservation.
For high- and low-voltage safety, Northland Utilities hosts electrical safety education seminars for local industry, firefighters and bylaw officers. In 2009, 166 workers from 22 companies attended the presentations held at our office.
Furthermore, hazard displays are available for trade shows and Northland Utilities makes presentations for other community groups.
