Northland Utilities’ mission and values reflect a corporate commitment to health, safety and the environment (HSE). Specifically, we commit to achieving and maintaining the following principles:

Safety First, Always

Safety is the first consideration in everything we do and zero injury is the only acceptable result. We will achieve this result through:

·        Top management visible commitment

·        Middle management and supervision who are involved and safety focused

·        Employees active participation

·        A safety system that is positively perceived by the workforce

Everyone Knows and Fulfills Their HSE Responsibilities & Commitments

Everyone is responsible to work safely. All employees, contractors, supervisors, managers and executives are responsible for ensuring workplace health and safety and environmental protection in their jobs. Each is accountable for understanding and following the HSE requirements in any and all work that they undertake.

Meeting or Exceeding Regulatory Requirements

We will comply with HSE regulatory requirements and endeavor to exceed or to better them. We will strive to use the best available, cost-effective techniques and procedures to ensure health and safety and to protect the environment.

Integrating HSE into Decision Making

HSE considerations are integrated into our business, construction and operational decisions in order to ensure that we act safely, minimize impacts on the environment and comply with regulatory requirements.

Reporting, Monitoring and Auditing

We will meet HSE regulatory requirements related to reporting and provide other forms of reporting to assure HSE accountability. Monitoring and measurement will enable us to assess and evaluate compliance and identify potential areas of concern. Audits will be used to confirm compliance with HSE regulatory requirements, policies and accepted management systems.

Responsible Environmental Actions

We will design, construct and operate our facilities in a manner that minimizes pollution and the impact of our operations on the environment and wildlife. Efforts are commensurate to risk and include incident emergency response plans, waste minimization, and attention to species at risk.

Building Partnerships

We will continue to work together with our employees, business partners, communities, key industry and interest groups, service providers and regulatory agencies to share information in an effort to enhance our HSE endeavors.
